News Summary 2009

Year 2009 flashed by - almost faster than the speed of light...  On the last day of the year it is time to look back at the news that seabee.info never had time to put out!

Exports/imports

Year 2009 was a good year for Europe!  To my knowledge, three Seabees have been sold to Europe:

S/N 813 (ex N6457K) has been sold from Karl Bennett to Per Otto Leth-Olsen in Norway.  She arrived Norway in October and will be registered LN-PLO when she has been restored by Per Otto.

S/N 1001 (ex C-FEII) has been imported to Switzerland from Canada by Theodor Frey.  The Seabee has not been registered yet.

S/N 182 (ex N451E) has been sold to a new owner in The Netherlands and is currently undergoing restoration at Henry Ruzakowski's in North Carolina.

Accidents

Fortunately there has been no fatal Seabee accidents reported during 2009.

2009-07-01: N87487 (s/n 38) was substantially damaged when it struck power lines during takeoff initial climb from the Burley Municipal Airport (BYI), Burley, Idaho. The airplane was registered to and operated by the student pilot under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The certificated flight instructor sustained serious injuries and the student pilot sustained minor injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the cross-country flight. The instructional flight was originating at the time of the accident with an intended destination of Caldwell, Idaho. Factual Report.

N6511K (s/n 777):  2009-01-12 registered to Gateway Air Center Inc.; Merced, California. Previous owner: Steven K. Hansen; Merced, California (2004-01-24).

N6652K (s/n 929): 2009-03-09 registered to Fourth LLC; Muskogee, Oklahoma.  Previous owner:

N87487 (s/n 38): 2009-07-21 registered to Kim J. Paulsen; Klamath Falls, Oregon.  Previous owner: Paradise Landing LLC; Gilbert, Arizona (2007-07-30).

N87553 (s/n 114): 2009-02-12 registered to Richard J. Wais; Leesburg, Florida.  Previous owner: Robert G. Estes; Shelton, Washington (1999-04-13).
