|
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION |
Type
- Three Seat boat Amphibian.
Wings
- Shoulder wing cantilever monoplane. Two-spar all metal
construction. Centre-section, attached to hull, carries tail-booms
and engine mounting. Statically and aerodynamically balanced
ailerons. Split flaps inboard of ailerons. Gross wing area
13.5 m² (145.26 sq ft).
Hull
- Single step all metal structure. Hull below cabin floor has
series of watertight compartments. Deck of rear portion provided
with manholes and drain openings. Rudder hinged to sternpost.
Tail
Booms - Each is tapered tube made from a single duralumin
sheet. Boltet to wing centre-section through flanged duralumin
collars.
Tail
Unit - Rectangular tailplane between ends of booms.
Statically and aerodynamically balanced elevator has central
controllable trim-tab. Aerodynamically balanced rudders.
Entire tail-unit is of metal construction. Tailplane span
(centre-line of booms) 2.50 m (8 ft 2 in).
Landing
Gear - Retractable nose-wheel type. Two main units are
independent but are retracted by a single hydraulic jack. When
retracted, each unit is entirely buried in side of hull.
Oleo-pneumatic shock-struts- Wheels are of peralumin
anti-corrosive alloy and have Bendix-type hydraulic disc brakes.
Main wheel track 1.96 m (6 ft 5 in). Wheelbase 2.65 m (8 ft 8 in).
Wing
Tip Floats - Retractable floats are of peralumin alloy and
are carried on single struts. Hydraulic retraction. When
raised are located at wing tips.
Power
Plant - One 145 hp Continental horizontally-opposed
fan-cooled engine burried in centre-section. Aeromatic
automatically adjustable-pitch pusher propeller with armoured wood
blades. Electric starter. One 100 litre (22 imp gallons)
fuel tank in hull behind cabin.
Accommodation
- Cabin seats three, two each side and backs of front seats hinged
forward to give access to rear seat. Radio. Electric
position indicators for landing gear, flaps and wing-tip floats.

FN.333-S
|
The FN.333-S is the production
development of the previously-described FN.333. It is powered by a
225 hp Continental engine, has accommodation for four persons and is
fitted with a novel form of wing-folding.
The wing of FN-333-S is in five
sections, consisting of centre-section and four outer sections, two each
side, the inboard sections being hinged to fold upward and the outboard
sections downward. The wing folding and unfolding, which is
controlled form the cockpit by a system of hydraulic jacks, is
automatically synchronised to ensure that, when the aircraft is afloat,
the wing-tip floats are in constant contact with the water so as to
maintain lateral stability. There is an independent control for
normal wing-tip float retraction and lowering.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION |
ENGINE
The FN-333 is powered by a Continental IO-470-P horizontally opposed,
six-cylinder engine, rated at 250 horsepower at 2,600 RPM. The
engine utilizes a wet sump oil system, dual magnetos, continuous flow
fuel injection and a jet augmenter exhaust system.
THROTTLE
The throttle has a knob and a knurled friction adjusting sleeve by which
proper friction drag may be applied to the throttle control.
To operate the control, grasp the knob between the thumb and two fingers
and push in the knob to advance the throttle, or pull out to
retard. Turn the knurled sleeve clockwise to increase the friction
drag and counterclockwise to decrease the friction drag.
NOTE - Because
of the constant speed propeller mechanism installed on the airplane,
advancing the throttle will not increase the engine RPM. It will
increase the manifold pressure. With each power increase, the
constant speed propeller automatically takes a larger pitch, enabling
the engine to run at a constant speed at all times. Engine RPM
can be changed by adjusting the propeller control.
MIXTURE
CONTROL
The mixture control incorporates a friction lock button to secure it at
the desired position. Push the control in to enrich the mixture
and pull out to lean. To stop the engine, pull the knob to
the IDLE-CUT-OFF position. Turn the knob in or out for close
adjustments.
