in Port Sulphur, Lousiana. The engine lost power during a pull-up
from a low pass over Birdwin airport (7LA1). The pilot made a forced
landing in the icy Mississippi River with the gear down. The
amphibian struck a submerged object in the river and flipped over.
The pilot and the passenger attempted to swim to shore, but due to the
exceedingly cold water temperature, only the pilot reached the bank of the
river. The passenger is missing and presumed drowned. (NTSB
