AirVenture
2011 - Bee Swarm!
Oshkosh July 25th - 31st

UPDATE (2011-07-19)!

It’s getting close to the launch date for the swarm, which is now up to 16 Seabees & should cause quite a stir. We have changed one stop, our fly-out is planned for Shawano, WI (KEZS) instead of LaPorte, IN (KPPO).

Just wanted to update everyone on our inbound flight plan to Oshkosh. Here are the airports & ETAs close as we can guess;

  • Depart CNF4 (Lindsay, ON) July 24th 8:00 A.M. with 1 or 2 Bees pick up 2 more enroute to PHN (Port Huron, MI)

  • Arrive PHN (Port Huron, MI) 10:00 A.M. clear US Customs

  • Depart PHN (Port Huron, MI) 11:00 to 11:30 A.M.

  • Arrive TVC (Traverse City, MI) 1:00 to 1:30 P.M.

  • Depart TVC (Traverse City, MI) 2:30 to 3:00 P.M. with 6 to 7 Bees plus any other Bees enroute

  • Arrive OSH (Oshkosh, WI) 4:00 to 4:30 P.M.

Of course we're not the airlines, all times are approximate. Anyone else wishing to join the flight please call & let us know so we can watch/wait for you at the different stops.

UPDATE!

We have decided to extend the party. We will now start the Swarm at Lindsay on Sunday July 24th, clear US customs at Port Huron MI the same day, then on to Traverse City MI & on to Oshkosh. We will fly a round trip to LaPort IN on July 26th to pick up more Bees (13 total so far).

Then we are inviting everyone of the Seabee owners/pilots joining the swarm to take a detour into Canada on their way home. We have confirmed that the fabulous Killarney Mountain Lodge (on Georgian Bay) has accomodations available & would love to have us drop in on Sunday the 31st. for an overnight stay. There is excellent water access, as well as an airstrip close to the Lodge. From there they are all invited to fly home with us to Balsam Lake Ontario, stay, camp & party as long as you want. We can park several Bees on the shore & the overflow could part 10 minutes away at the Lindsay Airport (CNF4).

If people need further information, they can contact me at (705) 340-2408.

Brian & Blair Robinson
21 June 2011

To all of you Seabee owners/pilots thinking of flying to Oshkosh this year; Brian & I are heading there (weather permitting). We want to put the largest swarm of ‘Bees’ in recent history to land as a group at Oshkosh. The plan is to depart Lindsay, Ontario (CNF4) early on Tuesday July 26th. We will clear US customs at Port Huron with as many Canadian ‘Bees’ as we can manage. We would depart Port Huron for LaPorte Municipal Airport, LaPorte, IN (KPPO) see below, there we would gather as many of our US friends as are interested & complete the journey to Oshkosh. Any early arrivals at Oshkosh could double back to join the swarm at LaPorte.

LaPorte Municipal Airport, LaPorte, IN (KPPO): Located at the southern tip of Lake Michigan and just 166 NM from Oshkosh, we are the perfect final stop on your way to AirVenture. We are the only airport around with Mogas. We also offer 100 LL, Jet-A, a crew car (first-come, first-served), catering (advance notice), a pilots' lounge to relax, AWOS, and an on-field mechanic. Our hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. CDT with after-hours service available. Three hotels are within five miles should you need a night’s rest. Coming in with a group? Call or email ahead and we'll fire up the grill (219-324-3393 orlpairport@csinet.net). Individuals receive a .10 cent/gallon discount. Groups of 5 or more will receive a .25 cent/gallon discount. If you want to spend the day, car rental is available for a trip to the casinos or beaches. Check us out at website;
